The Ventz

The Ventz were a less overt right-wing band that fell under the Leeds Punk Front umbrella along with The Dentists. There seems to be some connection with one of the first Leeds punk bands The Expelaires but I can’t confirm it.

The September issue of British News [right wing paper] featured a short interview with the lead singer of The Ventz who, disgusted by ‘lefty groups such as Tom Robinson Band, pushing homosexuality and all that trash’, came out in support of Rock Against Communism (RAC).

The band became The Ventz and seemed to play very little including a very ironic, if unfortunate, pairing of them at the F Club in April 1978 with The Front who had nothing to do with the National Front!

The band espoused an anti communist message and accompanied fellow right-wing punk friends The Dentists in a hired coach to their gig at the first Rock Against Communism gig at Conway Hall London in August 1979

The Ventz jumped ship sometime later to a more New Romantic direction changing their name to Tragic Minds.

Punk Music Catalogue website that lists gigs has the band playing the below at the F Club but missed out the above and it seems a very long gap between gigs!
