About Punk77

Punk 77 first started way back the late 1990’s. Back then the internet was dial up, mobile phones were still basic and Spotify, YouTube, MySpace and Facebook hadn’t even been thought of. It aimed to give a window on punk rock (1976-1979) and mainly the smaller, less talked about bands and the fans that followed them.

Punk 77 was born through finding a bit of software on a computer that even the makers didn’t advertise and that enabled us to get some pages up. It was originally called Nasty! Nasty! But that soon changed to Punk77 which was more suitable. Each page was handcrafted, no templates or content management and over the years some 1000 pages were done like that. On the internet time machine sites you will no doubt find whole pages created in lime green comic sans san!

By 2024, the site was creaking and it couldn’t take advantage of all the good things the internet gives so this new revamped site gives you the bands and features and now the videos and music to go with it. Don’t agree with what’s been said, then make a comment? Want to add a photo or put something right then add a comment.

We’re conscious that some of the photos we use potentially could be viewed as breaching copyright and you could no doubt attempt to bleed the site dry, but sadly, there is no money – the site and platform belong to a limited company that has no assets and makes no profit.

The aim was always to be free of advertising, non-profit making, and give an amazing educational experience to anyone, young or old, who wandered in and explored this amazing music and fashion.

It was also to support the old and crucially the new artists (whether music, books or gigs or whatever) and give something back

Nothing’s fucking changed there! If you want us to take something down, then email us. If we haven’t credited you, then email us. If you take our use of the photos in the spirit it’s intended, which is fair use and educational and a genuine love of the music, then welcome aboard.

Lastly, a site like this might seem an anachronism in this day of age of short snippets, tweets, Facebook photos and instant likes. We don’t honestly give a flying fuck. The explosion of data, far from bringing everything together and making it all clearer, has atomised and scattered it. It’s an irony that AI is artificially harvesting it and collating it back together.

Punk77 attempts to bring all the elements of punk together in one place.

Great guys. Please let them know that Shrink is still alive and composing music for film these days…I work under a few aliases such as David Banks and VALID8R (I have an album on Bandcamp titled “APOTHEOSIS by VALID8R if anyone would care to listen..It consists of modern hybrid rock/orchestral and electronic designed for film use.
