Menace – Death & Taxes September 2024

And so another of 1977’s survivors return with 14 new songs. Menace (the godfathers of street punk along with Sham 69) are an example to any young aspiring band; they gig probably more than they ever did now across the UK and Europe, have built up a core fanbase, change merchandise regularly, and keep releasing albums all self-financed, self-promoted and self-managed. They’ll never get rich from it, but they love doing what they do and…. they support the scene. So while Noel may be the last original man standing, and has moved from drums to singing, this latest iteration are worthy of the great name. This is the first set of originals from them and while keeping the original essence of Menace takes it in some new directions.

So what do you get? It’s no surprise Menace haven’t decided to do 1) a concept album, 2) An EDM or 3) gone avant-garde jazz. Menace does what Menace does best, chunky guitars and massive singalong choruses with hooks, but there are a couple of surprises. Chunky guitars, solid bass and drums, some nice deft touches and massive singalong choruses with hooks. There is however some harmonica on Death & Taxes 🙂

Picks here would be The Truth, I Don’t Want To Be Angry Anymore, and the more leftfield stuff (for Menace) like incredibly catchy Death Of Boredom and the last song September 92 which is a quiet sensitive closer.

Menace now are Noel Martin – Guitar/Vocals Pete Bradshaw – Guitar Dave Jenkins – Bass/Vocals Simon Edwards – Drums. They are forever playing live. Go see them!

If you want the vinyl get it direct from Noel from the email address below or message Noel on the Menace Facebook Page with any questions.
