Lambrini Girls Live Review York Crescent 07.04.2025 – Firing on all cylinders!

Having released the excellent Who Let The Dogs Out album, which is already a contender for album of the year, this is part of the relentless touring schedule for the Lambrini Girls as they take their message of anger to the world.
The stage belies what’s about to come. Small amps on milk crates. The drummer is setting up their own kit, taking his drumsticks out of a carrier bag and sitting there checking their phone and then we’re off.
From the get go it’s full steam ahead as Phoebe shouts to the audinence “Who wants to fuck?” before launching into Big Dick Energy at full pelt and straight away snapping a string

Both Phoebe and Lilly wield their instruments with considerable dexterity and skill. Phoebe has that charisma, that guitar hero arrogance in the way she/they holds and wrings the sounds out of her guitar along with singing and never remains still for a second. The same with Lilly on bass who sounds like a whole band on her own with her fluid, fuzzed up bass. And respect too to the drummer who provides the thunderous backbeat.
Together, they are making some of the most innovative but challenging and controversial popular punk rock I’ve heard in a long long time.

From the get-go go the audience is in the palm of Phoebe’s hand and it’s a safe space. When she/they wants them to part to enable her to carry on the singing on the floor, they part and come back to mosh when she says. If she/they wants them to sit down, they do that – but it’s a good-natured two-way affair. But all the time, the message is serious from the Lambrini Girls. Homophobes, transphobes and sexual predators, whether in music (gigs/industry) or the street, the police, political parties and especially Reform are the enemy.

Make no mistake the Lambrini Girls are a political band and they are very clear about that. For women, gay, transgender people and the disadvantaged, the world is still a shitty place. This isn’t going quietly and accepting; this is a righteous howl of punk protest.
What is also very very clear is the band are great at songwriting and can ring from their instruments both a poppy punky and hard hitting array of sounds to help carry that message through. Great examples of that are Company Culture and No Homo.

Pick of the night is Love which for me showcases all that’s good and amazing about the band in song writing, playing and lyrics.
The show finished with Cuntology with Annie of CLT DRP joining them and Phoebe again in the audience. After they go offstage the crowd forms a human pyramid (it was one of Phoebe’s options in a crowd game not chosen). Phoebe’s back out and gets ready to climb to the top and maybe luckily she doesn’t, as it collapses in a heap!
The Lambrini Girls – pure punk rock and a poke in the enemy’s eye while having fun!
Shout out to York Crescent as well. What a fantastic venue!
