The Dispozest

The Dispozest were just a blip on the punk scene. Their one claim to fame was appearing in a couple of silent 8mm films from the time during their rehearsals at Alaska Studios in Waterloo with a couple of different bassists. The 8mm shorts were Don’t Dream It, See It and We’re No Angels.
Punk chronicler Captain Zip – aka Phil Munnoch – shot a series of 8mm films of his friends hanging out around the Kings Road in Chelsea between 1978 and 1982. This film documents a day trip by members of punk band The Dispozest, taking in Downing Street (even punks could wander up to Number 10 in 1978!), a performance by the band, and a gang of ‘punkettes’ crashing at Zip’s flat.

The drummer for The Dispozest was Jim Grieve, who had moved to London in 1978 from Dundee after finishing school and answered an ad in the New Musical Express. The film has a couple of people playing the bass
I can’t remember any of the songs. There was Carol Bentley on vocals, John Nicoll on guitar and I can’t remember the bass player’s name. I think we rehearsed half dozen times and then it just all fizzled out, to be honest.
Jim then returned to Dundee and was part of the band List-D.
