2024 Punk77 Rings Out The Old & Rings In The New

What a year and while there’s undoubtedly been many highlights, Punk77 picks 3 young bands all with some common themes uniting them. 47 years ago (hell!) in Sounds December 1977 Jon Savage wrote ‘the future is female’ to emphasize the growing amount of women in punk like Pauline from Penetration, Siouxsie, Joan Jett, Patti Smith, Gaye Advert and Poly from X Ray Spex. The abuse and condescension these people faced from sexist crap to roadies physically cutting the strings of their instruments and other sabotage to mock and belittle was horrific.
Now nearly half a century later how much has changed? Perhaps not so much given how these bands eloquently express their feelings! If there’s positives to be taken (and there are a lot) it’s that these are shit hot young bands with something to say saying it with eloquence/directness/humour & passion backed with loud raucous guitars keeping music alive, drawing in new fans and influencing others to pick up instruments. The future isn’t female – it isn’t gender specific – the future is bands like these!
Now get off your arses and go and support them!
The Meffs
Make no mistake The Meffs with the Essex duo of Lily and Lewis are on the rise. With a 24 carat punk rock album ‘What A Life’ and another headline tour early next year to boot, 2024 has been a great year for the band.

Scream If You Wanna Go Faster is as refreshing as a mojito on hot day or at 7am in the morning if that’s your bag. This little beauty bends punk/alternative into a wonderful, crazy happy shape. The songs about everyday troubles, relationships and situations set to music that’s razor-sharp, funky and is full of space allowing the instruments and songs to breathe.
Picks – It’s Art – do people really still think women can’t play?
The Lambrini Girls
Another band on the rise finishing up the year strongly supporting The Idols in the USA.
Strong live performances have been garnering them attention and their debut album due January 10th (review coming very soon) Who Let The Dogs Out captures their sonic and lyrical attack perfectly.
