Down At The Roxy WC2 – Peter Crowley**** – Review 23.09.26

Down At the Roxy WC2 is the second in what I assume to be an ongoing series of recollections by Peter Crowley. It’s again in a short, pocket-sized version, is around 90 pages and takes around an hour to read. If he keeps on going like this, then it will end up being the most expensive book I’ve ever read/bought in serial format!
Let’s address the elephant in the room, though – it’s called ‘Down At the Roxy WC2’ but actually barely mentions the place. I was looking forward to some tales told in that laid-back, laconic style, given he was there so much, but no. He does, however, like to throw in the odd controversial opinion, like on the Sex Pistols and Sid Vicious being easily able to replace Rotten as the frontman. Ha ha!
But that aside, like in Down At Max’s, you get plenty of entertaining stories about that legendary place, characters and bands and more from Peter’s life in music as it randomly but entertainingly zigzags around. For some reason, I always think Max’s had more magic about it than CBGB’s, so I love any stories from that time, right back to its earliest days. I’d love to hear him read the books on audio.
