TRELANE AND THE SQUIRES OF GOTHOS – Mary Mary – Punk77 Review August 2025

What can you say about this except – it’s pure 60’s psychedelic fuzzed up garage punk heaven. I can just imagine dancing in the Alice In Wonderland club to this little beauty. Plus you get an equally good cover of the proto-punk classic (I’m Not) Your Stepping Stone on the B side.
Now the proof of the pudding is a long player that pushes the boundaries like the Fuzztones, Lime Spiders etc so will be keeping my eye out for that.
Released September 5th on Damaged Goods Records. Preorder HERE
Here’s the PR guff which is suitably esoteric…
Starting out at a mere 14 years old,Trelane was helping out on backing vocals with Billy Childish and CTMF, and filled in on lead vocals for a Ramones number on a session for Riley and Coe’sBBC6 Music show. Upon hearing what a great voice Trelane had, the group decided to try out lead vocal tracks on a few Monkees covers. Trelane came up with the group name. Further recordings are planned.
The following text features on the back sleeve of the group’s debut 7″….
We first met Trelane in 2267 AD whilst on a supply mission to the Beta VI colony.
Trelane was young, courageous, dressed in calf length moccasins – claimed to be the ex-property of one Peter Tork- a stupidly long-fringed cowboy jacket and ‘hip’ pants.
‘You cats dig The Monkees?’ Quired Trelane.
‘Of course,’ we replied.
‘Groovy,’ laughed Trelane, ‘I name you cats The Squires of Gothos. Got a harpsichord?’
‘No, sorry.’
‘Don’t worry, I’ll conjure one up – and here’s a studio. Now for Pete’s sake stop fooling around and let’s record!’
And so it was, and here is the result.Dig!!!
