Loose Articles – Scream If You Wanna Go Faster
Punk77: Coming across new music is so random nowadays. My son gets his from Fortnite, Youtubers and Minecraft. Mine come from playing a song on Spotify and it randomly playing stuff which to be fair normally is pretty good or Radio 6. This came from the latter playing Are You A Welder which grabbed me.
Scream If You Wanna Go Faster by Loose Articles is the album – As refreshing as a mojito on hot day or at 7am in the morning if that’s your bag, this little beauty bends punk/alternative into a wonderful, crazy happy shape. The songs about everyday troubles, relationships and situations set to music that’s razor-sharp, funky and is full of space allowing the instruments and songs to breathe.
Its got funky chorus-treated bass, picked guitars, well-placed synth bubbles and a high in the mix original sung/spoken vocal delivery. There are tiny hints (to my ears) of influences from, Gang Of Four, B52’s, The Slits and Arctic Monkeys but the sound is all theirs and according to their PR they knocked this out in two weekend sessions so kudos again.
Picks – It’s Art, Are You A Welder, Pinball John and the (very Bryan Adams Run To You sounding) Guitars, Cars, Knickers & Bras but its all frikkin great.
In fact, to go further It’s Art is the pick of the pick as it arguably shows the band’s high spots up. Opening lolloping bassline with chorus effect and almost dub style rimshot snares. Laidback half spoken vocals about the injustice of the way women playing music are still treated. The song slowly builds with jagged guitar phrasing till it erupts in full punk fury with righteous indignation. All the while being fucking catchy!
To be honest, it’s just reassuring music like this is still being made and gigged. There’s hope for music yet! A perfect 10/10
