The Germs
Forming /Sex Boy (What Records 1978)

The DIY ethic lead by suicide icon Darby Crash and featuring at one time Belinda Carlsile. This descent into the maelstrom is a punk must have and shows what a garage, a tape recorder and a bit of guts can do.

The Nuns
 Savage/Decadent Jew/ Suicide Child (415 Records '78)

Like Crime, punks before their time and a little bit special with the exquisite Jennifer Miro on Keyboards and occasional vocals. Opened for the Sex Pistols on one of their US dates and produced this opus. Band still playing and recording with Jennifer seemingly into fetish and bondage.

The Weirdos

We Got The Neuron Bomb/ Solitary Confinement (Dangerhouse 1978)

Rough raw and perhaps the closest sounding to English punk. Outrageous appearance and a great single. In a later incarnation Flea of the RHCP played bass.

X
Adult Books / We're Desperate (Dangerhouse 1978)

Not the greatest fan of X but I couldn't exactly leave them out. Their finest single and while Adult Books is good the b-side takes the plaudits.

The Zeros
Don't Push Me Around/Wimp (Bomp 1977)

If I had to pick a favourite here it would have to be the so called Mexican Ramones. So many great songs to choose from but my vote goes to this single but especially to the unreleased Handgrenade Heart. Sheer youthful punk perfection.
